General Fasteners Company is seeking an Engineering Lab Technician to be based out of our Madison Heights, MI Engineering Center, where you will become an expert in the latest test methods for analyzing fastened joints.   • Work closely with internal and external customers as directed by the Engineering Lab Manager
  • Conduct a variety of fastener applications tests including:
    •  Benchtop torque/tension testing (Schatz torque/tension system)
    • Torque/Fail testing
    • Ultrasonic clamp load measurement (Micro-controls system)
    • Fatigue testing (MTS)
    • Others as directed
  • Report test results in an organized manner with emphasis on quality of data
  • Learn and understand standard GFC fastener description terminology and provide support for technical data entry.
  • Prepare/coordinate testing and drawing services for customers
  • Study and participate in the development of our core markets and industries including automotive, heavy truck, autonomous vehicles, electronics, military transports, recreation vehicles and more
  • Increase industry awareness about the Engineering Center by participating in promotional efforts and capability presentations.
  • Maintain an awareness of industry trends in fastener manufacture, assembly, and testing through supplier/customer visits, training, etc.


  • Experience with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Experience with fastener testing concepts and procedures
  • Ability to organize resources, establish priorities, and manage time effectively
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Gather data, compile information and prepare reports
  • Effectively present information to internal and external customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Customer focused attitude with a desire to interact on a very regular basis
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude


  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree in mechanical/materials science preferred 
  • Two years experience developing fastening solutions or solving critical application issues in the manufacturing environment preferred


  • Must be able to sit, stand and work for up to 8 hours per day
  • Some lifting of loads in excess of 40lbs
